Shirley Marie Lee was born to the late Robert Lewis Gordon and Shirley Ann Gordon in Buffalo, NY on March 4, 1975. Shirley peacefully slept and exchanged time with eternity unexpectedly at the age of forty on November 16, 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia at her home. Shirley graduated from the Performing Arts High School in Buffalo, NY where she majored in Art and later attended Buffalo State College. At the tender age of 23, Shirley married the love of her life, Robert Lee on October 22, 1998. They were exceedingly blessed to share 17 wonderful years of marriage and welcomed two daughters and two sons into their solid union.
Ready to blaze a new trail, Shirley and Robert relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 2006, and were instrumental in aiding in her family’s great migration. Once settled into her new position at Delta Airlines and her new home, she graciously opened her doors to assist every family member who desired to move from the North, giving countless relatives the “leg up” they needed to start new lives.
Shirley gave her life to the Lord at an early age and believed in living life according to God’s plan. Shirley attended Wesley Chapel UMC, McDonough where she served faithfully under the leadership of Reverend William “Bert” Neal. She was connected to her family and friends, and although she enjoyed traveling, watching Football, home improvement, and technology, she found a rare sense of tranquility just relaxing and playing spades with her family and friends. She also took to her Bible Studies with great interest.
Shirley was a devoted mother and wife and relished in the freedom that her hard word afforded her. Never idle, she focused on raising her children, nurturing her husband and family, and cultivating special bonds with her friends, especially her Delta friends. She was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem no matter how small. Shirley possessed a personality so infectious, she often found herself being deemed everyone’s favorite. She was filled with the kind of warmth and compassion that is rarely seen, let alone experienced. A born nurturer, she cared for many of her siblings and family members in their time of greatest need. She had a way of making family feel like her top priority. She never asked “What can I do?”, she simply ‘DID”, and she did it well, without ever seeking acknowledgment or praise. She was the epitome of humility, character, and altruism. There will never be another quite like her and we will miss her infinitely.
Shirley was joyously welcomed into the gates of Heaven by her parents, Robert and Shirley and her brother James. She leaves to eternally honor and cherish her memory, her devoted husband Robert Lee; two daughters, Selena Lee and Love Lee; two sons, Solomon Lee and Joshua Lee; three sisters, Lucy Gordon, Lorene Gordon, and Lillian Gordon; three brothers, Robert Gordon Jr., Darnell Gordon, and Saul Gordon; the Lee Family, aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends, as well as a host of nieces, great nieces, and nephews, all of whom anointed her as their favorite aunt.
