Shirley was such a loving person. She was the first to accept this yankee as an equal and a friend when I married her cousin, Bill Carter. 
She's up in Heaven with Bill now. Bill always complained that his older girl cousins(Jane, Joanna, and Shirley) bossed their younger boy cousins ( Jimmy and Bill) around. I know he'll be glad to have Shirley around to share old Marion remembrances.

Sunday morning coffee hour at the church was always special when Shirley was in charge. I would tell her that we didn't have any goodies to put out and she would just take over and in a few minutes, not only did we have lots of goodies, it looked like it was professionally catered. Shirley had a great sense of humor and we would often say it was a good thing that we didn't know each other when we were growing up, because we could have really got into mischief! Thanks for the laughs, Shirley! I will miss you a lot!

Still can't believe I won't be seeing this beautiful lady anymore smiling in the kitchen of our Parish Hall or teaching a craft to the children in Path to Shine. She never let me down no matter how badly she felt! I love her and will miss her very much. God is holding you in His arms.

We will most definitely miss her spunkiness and smiles. We will forever cherish the memories with her.

I have know Shirley as "Granny" since 2006 when my son married her granddaughter Brittany. The times I got to spend with Granny at wedding showers, baby showers, holidays, and family gatherings was truly special. She had a great sense of humor and also a great heart of understanding. She was amazing to talk with and from as far as I could tell her family was her world. She was so very blessed to get to know and be a part of her great grandchildren's lives. So many hand made blankets and animal friends she made them will give them great memories of her love. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of loss.

She was a special helper with the St Wilfrids Bazar and soup luncheon!
She made beautiful angels and crafts to sell.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time. Our family has very fond memories of Shirley. Seeing she and her mother on Dekalb Street was a highlight of visiting Marion, AL. Shirley had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a good story to share. Although in recent years we have not had the pleasure to see her, we would visit on social media. RIP, Shirley.

We so enjoyed knowing Shirley during our years together at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, Morrow, GA. Shirley organized and led a Prayer Shawl Ministry for several years during our time there. I was the recipient of one of the Prayer Shawls after having open heart surgery in 2017. We relocated from Jonesboro, GA to Brighton, CO in March 2020 to live closer to family in Colorado.

Love and prayers to you and your family! Such a smart precious fun lady!!!!! 

Shirley was a special neighbor and friend in Marion. I still have the quilt she made my mother during her convalescence from a stroke and will never forget the "birthday party" we held for 103-year-old Gladys Shivers (Shirley's Mom) and my Mom (88 years old) -- party hats and all. Shirley was one in a million.

We lived one house over from the Cargiles back in the 70’s, and still keep in touch with them through Facebook. Shirley was one of the sweetest ladies we knew. Loved her smile and you always knew how much her family meant to her.  

I’ll always remember summer visits to Marion, ceramics and painting them, making crafts out of Sculpey, visits to JoAnn’s and Michael’s, and more recently, watching her enjoy my children (her great-grandchildren). Granny/Great-Granny will be dearly missed by my family.
