Here is to a life filled with love, laughter, faith, family and friendship!
Rossie was born in Savannah to Virginia (Tutu) and Hal Keller. Her brother, Hal Jr., was her closest companion throughout their early years living in the Boston area, where Rossie learned to ice skate while their father served as a Chaplain. After her father passed away of a sudden heart attack in 1944, Tutu, Hal and Rossie moved home to Kelleytown, where she grew up playing the organ at Kelley Presbyterian Church. Rossie studied at the University of Florida and the University of Georgia before taking an administrative job for the Atlanta Braves. Eventually she spent more than 30 years working at BellSouth with her cousin and best friend, Sara Ann Hightower, where they traveled the nation for their work, journeying from New York, to Miami, Denver and many other terrific cities.
A South Georgia banker named Billy Mitchell moved to Jonesboro as a Vice President for Trust Company Bank and was introduced to Rossie on a blind date. Less than one year later, they were married and had their daughter, Amy, in 1975. They were also proud parents to Billy’s children, Bill and Eleanor, who Rossie and Amy loved to vacation with each summer. Rossie adored her extended family from Hal Jr. and her beloved sister-in-law, Barbara Keller, to their children, Sherry, Penny and Cooper, and all of their wonderful children, grandchildren and cousins. Rossie retired from BellSouth in 1985 and spent her early retirement years substitute teaching at Jonesboro Jr. High School. She was an active and joyful member of McDonough Presbyterian Church. She loved traveling and playing bridge with her closest friends from McDonough, and walking each day with Prince, her yorkie.
In 2017, Rossie moved to Baton Rouge to spend her final years of life with Amy, her son-in-law, Aaron, and her granddaughters, Rosalie and Margot. She maintained the love, grace and humor that she carried throughout her life as she fought advanced artery ailments and vascular dementia. She passed away peacefully with the care of Hospice of Baton Rouge, Aaron, and the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living in Baton Rouge in May 2022.
