Major (Ret.) Richard Keith Harned, age 58, of McDonough, Georgia passed away January 21, 2024. He was born November 20, 1965 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Francis A. and Fonzell Gordon. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Harned. Richard grew up in Macon, Georgia, graduated from Southwest High School and went on to obtain a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army and the United States Navy. He began his law enforcement career in Macon, Georgia for the Board of Education and the Mercer University Police. He then worked for the Monroe County Police Department and ultimately with the Henry County Police Department with a 20 year career where he recently retired as Major. Richard was involved with a number of work details and projects that allowed him to be in the community as outreach for children and abuse victims among many others. He was always an avid follower of Christ, but really strengthened his relationship and bond with the Lord in the last few years and witnessed and ministered to everyone he could. He loved his family and grandbabies and had a desire to help everyone. He was goofy and always laughing even until the very end. He found joy in life and his days. Survivors include his daughters, Samantha Lennon and Jessica Bel Khadir and their mother, Tina Harned; grandbabies, Nathaniel Haney, Chace Haney, Willa Lennon and Waverly Lennon; siblings, Mike Harned, David Harned, Keith Harned and Tonja Scarbary. Friends may visit the family Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Haisten Funerals & Cremations, 1745 Zack Hinton Parkway, McDonough, GA 30253. A funeral service will be held Monday, January 29, 2024 - 11:00 AM at Turning Point Church, 78 Old Jackson Rd, McDonough, GA 30252. Interment will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, 7070 Houston Rd, Macon, GA 31216.
