Raymond Johnson, III, age 60, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. He was born December 22, 1963. Raymond was preceded in death by his father Raymond Johnson, Jr., brother Reginald Johnson and son Ishmael Marquez, Jr.
In 1983, Raymond proudly enlisted in the United States Army where he served with distinction. Sergeant First Class Raymond Johnson, III was a combat veteran and served in numerous positions in the generating and operating force, supporting Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operation Noble Eagle (Homeland), Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan and multiple global cross-functional team deployments in support of the Global War on Terrorism. During his time in the service he received the following awards and decorations: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (6th Award), Army Achievement Medal (5th Award) Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (2nd Award), South West Asia Service Medal w/ Bronze Star, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, United Nations Medal, NATO Medal (2nd Award), Expert Field Medical Badge, Basic Marksmanship Qualification Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Driver and Mechanic With Driver - Wheeled Vehicles Clasp. SFC Johnson retired in 2007 after 24 years of dedication and service to his country.
After retirement, SFC Johnson married the love of his life, Ashley Johnson, and settled in Locust Grove, GA. SFC Johnson also has 8 children that he was extremely proud of, and he continued to impact the lives of many throughout his nursing career. His dedication and commitment to his work earned the admiration and respect of many. He was a devoted family man and dear friend that will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife Ashley Johnson; sister Jacquelyn Tillis (Gabriel) of Texas; mother Rose Taylor (Phil); children Vanessa Johnson of Missouri, Alexandra Hartfield of Texas, Alvoid Hartfield (Shawnay) of Ohio, Ivan Marquez of California, Lisette Lopez (Mario) of California, Joseph Dupree and Ryan Dupree of Locust Georgia, Georgia and Raymond Johnson IV of McDonough, Georgia; seven grandchildren, and many beloved extended family members and friends to which he would say, “Pray each day. The family will receive friends at Haisten Funeral Home on September 27, 2024, from 6PM - 8PM for visitation. Funeral services for SFC Raymond Johnson, III will be held on September 28, 2024, at 1PM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. A brief visitation from 12PM - 1PM will be held prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Eastlawn Memorial Park with full military honors. A reception for family and close friends will be held at the Johnsons’ family home in Locust Grove, Georgia following the interment.
