Matt was a gentle soul and I had the pleasure of working with him for 6 years at Norfolk! He will be greatly missed by many. Condolences to the family!

I sat in front of him for about a year at Norfolk Southern, and worked directly with him for almost two years.  He was one of the kindest, most considerate people that I know. As a technical writer, I had to work with the whole EWS department to try to get or confirm information, and he was always there with a kind, gentle smile that always communicated, "I'd be happy to help you."  I am sad that he has left us so soon.  My thoughts and prayers to Matt's family and close friends.

I'm at a loss for words, it's still so hard to believe.   Prayers and deepest sympathy to family and friends.    Matt will be truly missed.   Rest in peace...

We have lost an outstanding and beautiful soul. Matt was gentle, generous, and committed to his work and his coworkers.  He was entertaining and outgoing. We had many meaningful conversations, during my time at Norfolk Southern.  

May you take comfort in the knowledge that Matt was loved, respected, and in my opinion, he lived a full life. He will be missed. May the Lord give you peace and may you treasure the many memories you shared with Matt.

I worked closely with Matt at Norfolk Southern over 9 years, and he was a joy to work with. He never failed to make me laugh and always worked to do the right thing. He was always willing to help whether it be business or personal. Matt was a friend to many in the office, and he is surely missed. Work won’t be the same. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Matt will truly be missed.  He was a good friend and co-worker.   His quick wit and candor will forever be remembered.   My prayer are with you, the family.   Rest in peace my friend.

Matt will be missed. I still can't really believe this. I got a chance to know Matt while we sat on the same row at work and were on the same team for a few years. He was a generous and kind person, highly intelligent and willing to help when asked. I remember once when were asking for contributions for a gift for a colleague and Matt gave an unexpected and the largest amount of any one. That really just showed the generosity of his heart. We had many laughs and talks that I will not forget.  I pray God bless, comfort and be with the family and friends during this time.
