John was born in Wellsville, Ohio on February 21, 1968 in East Liverpool, Ohio to Glenn David Smith and Joyce Ann Downard. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, friend, and a proud Air Force Veteran. John, also known as Johnny to his coworkers, worked at Delta Airlines as an aircraft mechanic for where he was known for his kindness, work ethic, and most importantly is sense of humor.
John will be remembered for his contagious smile, laughter, strength, wisdom, generosity, and devotion to his family. An avid fisherman, loved to go fishing with his closest friends and children.
Known as Pap Pap to his beloved grandchildren, John enjoyed watching them play, teaching them new things, and ways to pester their parents. Although he had a few short years with most of his grandkids, the adoration he had for them will live on forever.
John’s loving spirit is carried on by his three children Jordan Coatney (Rock Hill,SC) , Hunter Smith (Jackson, GA), Mackenzie Smith (Mt. Pleasant, SC), his brother David Smith(McDonough, GA) along with his four grandchildren Piper Coatney, Brooks Coatney Waylon Smith and June Smith. Preceded in death by his father, Glenn David Smith, and mother, Joyce Ann Downard.
While John left us way too soon, the impact he had on everyone will live on forever. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 15th with visitation from 10am-12pm and a service to follow at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough, Georgia.
