Our extraordinarily amazing father, Jimmy Carlton Thompson, was called home by God on Saturday September 21, 2024, to join his wife Betty Jean, parents, Willie Jim and Willie Mae, and sibling Shelby Jean. Jimmy, born on September 8, 1946, was an incredibly devoted father, husband, and Pawpaw. At the young age of 15, Willie Jim passed away and Jimmy was thrown into adulthood as he had to take the reins to be the man of the house. He went to work to provide for the household while managing both school and the family farm. He was able to successfully finish school and begin a new chapter when he met Betty Jean which resulted in the beginning of their legacy.
He consistently provided a solid foundation for the livelihood of our family. He was always there as a backbone for us and always pushed us forward with unwavering commitment. Growing up, he taught us the value of hard work, how to hunt, fish, grow our own vegetables, and solidified our moral compasses to guide us through life the right way. He also taught us the importance of respect, the significance of having a sense of humor, and how to properly express world class Thompson sarcasm. Jimmy loved the simple things in life and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, being outdoors, listening to Hank Williams, and most of all spending time with his family. His passion for the outdoors and unparalleled skills as a woodsman earned him the nickname Tussahaw Wild Man. He was exceptionally skilled as there was nothing that he could not fix or build by hand. Jimmy will always be the zenith of what a father, husband, a grandfather, and of what a man should always strive to be. We are extremely lucky to have been blessed to have Jimmy in our lives. Each one of us has a piece of them missing without him.
Jimmy’s life will never be forgotten as he left an impression on every person that knew him. He leaves behind his sister Nolia Mae and several nieces and nephews. His legacy will live on through his three sons, Jim, Jeff and Joey, and through his grandchildren, Katie, Shaylin, Gabriel, and Ayana. He is and will always be our true hero.
