James was born in Tallassee, Alabama to the late Alvin and Sarah Maddox.
It has said that James was a "meat man" all of his life. He worked for Big Star Foods and managed his own meat and seafood market before embarking on a 25-year career with Publix Supermarkets where he would manage the meat department for several stores.
When Jim was 45 years old, he started racing cars. With his family and friends as his pit crew he would run the dirt track at Senoia where the number 78 would capture many checkered flags.
Jim had many "careers" but his greatest and most rewarding 67-year adventure began when he was 19 and married the love of his life, Joanne.
In addition to Joanne, Jim's memory lives on through his sons; Micheal (Jerri) Maddox, Ricky (Patty) Maddox and Jeffrey (Kristy) Maddox and daughter Kimberlee (Dana) Grubbs. Jim was also blessed with 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Judy Faye Hudson.
We wonder if James asked the same question at Heaven's gate that he would ask each morning before leaving for work ... "Don't I look dashing and debonair? "
James' family will gather to celebrate his life and legacy on Saturday March 9, 2024, at 11:00 am in the chapel of Haisten Funerals and Cremations in McDonough, Ga.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in James' name to Next Step Ministries to help assist special needs young and older adults.
