Mr. Harold Carter, age 93, of McDonough, GA passed away April 11, 2017. Mr. Carter was born in Porterdale, GA, the son of the late Minnie Preston Carter and Raymond Gordon Carter. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Beatrice (Bea) Carter. He lived most of his life in Henry County and was drafted into the U. S. Army at the age of 19 where he served three plus years in WWII in Greenland and combat in the Philippines. Mr. Carter was an active member of First Baptist Church of Avondale for 57 years serving as a Deacon and other areas of the church for many years. He has been a member of Salem Baptist Church since he left Avondale. Mr. Carter at the age of 80 carried the Olympic Torch in Atlanta for one mile during the Athens Olympics in 2004. Survivors are his children; Cynthia Gail Barnes (Larry) of Lawrenceville and Douglas Harold Carter Sr. (Marsha) of McDonough; grandchildren, Shanna Gail Crane (Josh), Brittany Amanda Barnes, Douglas Harold Carter, Jr., Hayley Anne Jackson (Sam) and Brandon Myles Barnes; and two great grandchildren, Harold James Farley and Samuel Joshua Crane. He also leaves behind two sisters, Mary Cash of Stockbridge and Betty Ann McKenzie of Dacula. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Funeral service will be on Friday, April 14, 2107 – 11:00 AM at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Statham officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park in McDonough.
