Gordon "Skip" Archer Layton, Jr., age 67 passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 to join his family in Heaven. He was born in Annapolis, MD on July 26, 1956 to the late Gordon and Janette Layton. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Elizabeth Layton. Skip was a proud "Navy Brat" and he and his wife were lifelong supporters of the military, especially the Navy. Growing up Skip was involved in the Boy Scouts of America attaining his Eagle Scout rank and becoming a member of the Order of the Arrow. Following his high school graduation from Brunswick High School he moved to the middle Georgia area and worked as a Civil Engineer for over 40 years. Skip's projects were throughout Georgia and Tennessee. His hobbies included golfing and being an avid Georgia Tech fan and supporter. Skip is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kim; son Adam Wood Layton (Grace) of Kingsland, GA, grandson Kai; sister Lynn (Rex) Odom of Murphy, NC; in-laws David (Fran) Casperson of Bluffton, SC; and two nephews Scott (Joy) Odom and Wesley (Tara) Odom and their families. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Haisten Funeral Home, 1745 Zack Hinton Parkway, McDonough, GA 30253. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. James the Apostle Catholic Church in McDonough, Georgia or the Wounded Warrior Project.
