Mr. Gideon Irlo “G.I.” Morris, age 97, of McDonough, Georgia passed away August 28, 2018. He was born in Locust Grove, Georgia to the late Emory and Maude Willis Barron Morris, and lived most of his life in Columbus, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Sarah Cook Morris; stepdaughter, Ann Blake and her husband, Jerry Blake; siblings, Dorsey Morris, Bruice Morris, Arnette Chestnut and Exa Murray. G.I. loyally served his country in the United States Army during World War II, in parachute rigger and repair for the Ft. Benning Airborne Division. G.I. was so creative and had extraordinary talent and an eye for color in interior decorating. His company, G.I. Morris Interiors, was very successful for 70 years, delighting many clients and giving him lifelong friends. G.I. was a committed parishioner of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where he faithfully attended, facilitated important improvements, and served as Senior Warden. G.I. and his wife, Sarah, were life members of the Exchange Club of Columbus, where G.I. was recognized as being the longest term member. Survivors include children, Mary (Howard) Morris of Hoquiam, Wash., Christine (Phil) Neal of The Villages, Fla., Linda (John) Massey of Locust Grove, Ga., Kenneth (Robert Gabbard) Morris of The Villages, Fla. and Wayne (Joan) Morris of Columbia, Tenn.; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 1, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Columbus, Ga. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family Friday from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
