Gary Kimbell Chappell

Mr. Gary Kimbell Chappell, age 73 of Locust Grove, Georgia passed away July 1, 2017. He was born in Hampton, Georgia to the late Robert Milton and Helen Katherine Payne Chappell. He was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles. Gary faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He was retired from International Paper and enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and was an avid reader and coffee drinker. Survivors include his wife, Sandy Chappell; children, Kevin Chappell of Jonesboro, Gary Chappell of Lithia Springs, Christy (Jason) Tharpe of Griffin, Kelley (Keith) Chappell-Black of Hampton; grandchildren, Brandon Black, Courtney (Marc) English, Loria Chappell, Hailey Coates, Sidney Black, Kyle Coates, Caleb Tharpe and Layne Tharpe; great grandchildren, Ethan and Abriella; siblings, Robert C. (Evelyn) Chappell of High Falls, Kitty (Carey) Ahrano of McDonough, Betty (Mike) Sims of Blairsville and Trisha (Larry) Ezell of Blairsville; numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017 - 2:00 PM at the Hampton Train Depot. Rev. Paul Chappell will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions are asked to be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Gary. Arrangements are under the direction of Haisten Funeral Home of McDonough.
