Duane Owen Scott, age 83, of Yuma, Arizona, passed away surrounded by loved ones on October 3rd, 2021 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Despite the struggle, Duane came out a winner and fulfilled his lifelong desire of meeting his beloved Jesus.
Duane was born on August 24th, 1938 to Charlie and Vernabelle Scott in Fort Wayne, Indiana. After moving out west to Idaho as a teenager, he worked in logging and then on the railroad.
It wasn’t long before he met and fell in love with Rose Marie West (Marie), who became his lifelong partner of 58 years when they were wed in 1959. Together they had 8 children: Shari, Teri, Debbie, Tammy, Duana, Dixie, Duane Jr (Scottie) and Dawna.
Duane was a force of nature, and spent a majority of his career selling and servicing railroad equipment, traveling the world, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. This was not just a career for him though, it became a chance for him to make lifelong friends and share his faith in Jesus not just in word, but in deed. It was very important to Duane that those he met “knew Him”, Jesus.
While Duane knew how to work hard, he also knew how to play hard and was passionate about doing fun things with his family and friends. On weekends and holidays you would often find him at the lake boating and skiing, in the mountains snowmobiling, trail riding on dirt bikes, on the beaches of Hawaii, having BBQs with those famous ribs, or camping anywhere he could squeeze in the RV.
Anyone who knew Duane knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. He was predeceased by his wife Marie, daughter Shari, son-in-law Randy (husband of Dixie), father Charlie and mother Vernabelle. He is survived by his children Teri (Ron), Debbie (Mike), Tammy (Doug), Duana (Randy), Dixie, Duane Jr (Emily) and Dawna (Craig), 29 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, along with his siblings Bill, Harvey and Beth. He was predeceased by his wife Marie, daughter Shari, son-in-law Randy (husband of Dixie), great-grandson Jaxton (grandson of Debbie), father Charlie and mother Vernabelle.
Duane requested that a Celebration of Life be held for his heavenly homecoming both in North Idaho and Arizona. In honor of Duane, and everything he meant to those who knew him, we request loved ones, friends and family to join us for a celebration of his life in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, at Lake City Church on Saturday, November 13th at 10:30am, with a reception to follow. A celebration will also be held in late January 2022 in Yuma, Arizona at Foothills Assembly of God.
