Don was born in 1942 to Sam Wood and Jewell Stowe. He spent his childhood in the hills of north Georgia and the fields of south Georgia. He served honorably in the US Army. In 1963, he met the love of his life, Linda Chaffin.
Don and Linda were blessed with 4 children: Wendy (Wayne) Butler, Donnie (Amanda) Wood, Laurie Wood, and Kerri Wood. Don doted on his 13 grandchildren: Emily, Lonnie, Logan (Kenniann), Darrian, KC, Cody, Emma, Christian, Sydney, Charlie, Garrett, Lauren, and Kathryn. And he doted on his 5 great grandchildren: Cora, Kaiser, Camilla, Aurora, and Kairi. He called often to inquire about them and was so proud of them all.
Don worked diligently at Ford Motor Company to provide for his family, retiring after 30.5 years. With the help of his wife, family, and friends, he expanded a small home to house his large family. He was very proud of that.
Don was the kind of neighbor always willing to offer a helping hand. Whether it was helping friends or home improvements for elderly in his church, he embraced hard work and service. He taught his children these lessons, as well as to be honest in all dealings, and to look upon the character of a person, not their station in life.
Don saw that his children were in church every week. He prayed with them while they were young and prayed for them after they left home.
Thank you Darling husband, Daddy, Papa, and Papason. Your love, your lessons, and your sacrifices continue to bring us blessings.
We love you always and forever!
