Charles D. Stewart, age 85, of McDonough, Georgia passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024. Charles was born in Porterdale, Georgia to the late Ray and Mabel Stewart. Joining the welcome party at Heaven's gate was Charles's brother Franklin Stewart.
Charlie graduated from Georgia Tech in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Textile Chemistry. Shortly after graduation Charlie went to work at Seydel-Woolley Textile Company. This was the beginning of a career that would cover three generations of the Seydel family and the next 56 years. Charlie would become the Lead Chemist and would develop many formulas that are still in use today. It was at Charlie's retirement ceremony that Chairman and CEO Scott Seydel Sr. announced that the lab was being renamed the Charles D Stewart Laboratory in honor of his many years of dedicated service.
Charlie was also a dedicated family man. Along with his High School sweetheart and wife of nearly 66 years Diane, his family grew to include Deana Darby (Mike), Kevin Stewart (Patty) and Robin Hillyer (Jeff).
Charlie enjoyed gardening and was an avid golfer and fan of all sports. He took a special interest in Ga.Tech football and basketball and held season tickets for both.
In addition to his wife and children, Charlie is survived by his grandchildren Chandler Darby (Yvonne), Katie Cooper (Ben), Stefanie Darby, Natalie Haire (Michael), Brendon Darby (Lydia), Nicholas Darby (Madison), Jordan Hillyer, Brittany Hillyer, Charlie Manley and Whitney Garland (Andrew) along with great grandchildren Luci Darby, Ellie Haire, Laurie Haire, Amelia Garland and Judson Garland.
Charlie's family will receive friends and guests at Haisten Funerals and Cremations in McDonough, Ga on Tuesday February 20, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday February 21, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Covington, Ga.
