Betty Ann Farrar

Betty Ann Whitworth Farrar passed away on September 10, 2023. She was born February 14, 1937. The daughter of Boss and Maggie Whitworth, she was predeceased by her parents, her sister Frances, and her son, Garvin Farrar.

Betty grew up in Guntersville, Alabama and was a majorette at Marshall County High School. She was married to Lamar Farrar for almost 70 years. After they married, Betty and Lamar moved to Refugio, Texas for almost 20 years and then settled in Georgia.

She was a superb seamstress, making suits for her four sons and prom dresses for granddaughters. She taught herself how to upholster furniture, crocheted countless items for family and friends, and enjoyed cross stitch, jigsaw puzzles and crosswords.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren remember sleepovers with all the cousins, playing Rook, fun in the swimming pool, and watching scary tv shows and the I Love Lucy reruns. In fact, many in her family thought she was their own Lucille Ball because of her humor and mannerisms.

She was a math whiz, a fan of the Atlanta Braves and University of Alabama, old westerns and was a great cook. She and Lamar enjoyed traveling to casinos in North Carolina and Mississippi.

Left to treasure her memory are her husband Lamar, sons, Steve (Renee), David (Cindy), and Randy (Lisa); grandchildren Michelle Smith (Shannon), Marie Murphey (Terry), Kristin McCown (George), Scott Farrar (Bethany), Bryan Farrar (Jennifer), Michael Farrar (Kristen), Brooke Barron, Andrew Farrar (Lauren); 15 great grandchildren; and sisters Virginia Starkey and Annette (Snookie) Smith.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Stockbridge First UMC, 4863 N Henry Blvd, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. The family asks that In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation for cancer research or to your favorite charity.
