He was born in Thomaston, Ga to the late Carl and Willene Harris.
Al loved his country and served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Recovery. After leaving the military he went to work for MARTA, retiring in 2004. He later went to work for New Flyer of America until 2012.
He enjoyed sitting in his tree stand in the woods watching for deer. He enjoyed every aspect of hunting. It didn't matter if it was deer, turkey or hog.
Al could be a prankster when he wanted to be but if there was a job to be or a task to be completed, Al could be counted on to get it done.
Al loved his family and will be remembered by his loving wife Rosana, daughters Daylin (Todd) Baker and DeAnne (Jamie) Ramsey, his bonus sons, Jimmy Ussery, Johnny (Kristi) Ussery, Jack Ussery, Gerald Mulkey, and Jason Ussery, several grandchildren, heart-related grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Al is also survived by his brother Andy (Regina) Harris and sister Angie (Ronald) Maxwell, several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews as well as his beloved church family.
Al loved God above all else. He enjoyed singing in church. He had a beautiful voice. He always said that when he was singing, he would imagine standing before the Lord and no one else. He was singing for and to God.
A committal service for Al will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Georgia Veterans Cemetery, 2617 Vinson Hwy, Milledgeville, GA 31061.
