Roland Payne, 80, of Aberdeen, Ohio passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. A lifelong resident of Aberdeen, Roland was born on April 17, 1935 the son of the late John R. Payne and Cora Davis Payne. Roland was a well respected pillar of the Aberdeen Community, serving on Village Council for several years, as well as acting Mayor for a period of time. His love for Aberdeen was reflected in many community projects he was instrumental in getting accomplished over the years. Retiring in 1990 as a school bus driver of twenty-nine years, he transported many students for Aberdeen, Huntington Local Schools, Manchester Local School District and Adams County Ohio Valley Local Schools. He worked several years in his father’s local businesses, Payne’s Carryout and Payne’s Laundromat during his father’s failing health. He and his wife were co-managers of Fenner Motel/Daniel Boone Motor Inn for twenty years. Roland was an active member of Central United Methodist Church until his failing health. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Lelia Ann Hardy Payne. He also leaves four loving children, Cheryl (Robert) Clarke, Maysville, KY, Sandra (Pat) Kimble, Spanish Fort, AL, Barry (Roxane) Payne, Aberdeen, OH and Lyndon Payne, Fort Thomas, KY. Also leaving to mourn his passing, Roland was blessed with eight grandchildren, Michael Kimble, Jamin Payne, Alison Kimble Hancock, Kelsey Clarke Niedert, Andrew Clarke, Jordan Payne, Brianna Payne and Haley Payne; three great grandchildren, Kara, Andrew and Chloe; two sisters, Mary Edith (Wayne) Griffith, Georgetown, OH and Ilene Chamberlain, Aberdeen, OH and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Roland was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Payne and sisters, Ellen Payne, Dorothy Reash, Mildred Beshea and Thelma Payne. Funeral services for Roland Payne will be held at the Central United Methodist Church at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 22, 2015 with Rev. David Green and Rev. Cameron Rash officiating. Burial will be in the Charter Oak Cemetery, Aberdeen, OH. Pallbearers will be Michael Kimble, Andrew Clarke, Jordan Payne, Craig Hancock, Chad Niedert and Craig Chamberlain. Visitation will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home Friday, August 21, 2015 from 5 to 8 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church, 912 East Second Street, Maysville, KY 41056 or the charity of one’s choice.
