Rev. Lloyd Sewell

Rev. Lloyd “Jerd” Sewell, 103, died May 22, 2013 at the Maysville Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility. He was born November 4, 1909 at Grundy, KY to the late Silas Logan and Dora Vaught Sewell. Rev. Sewell was preceded in death by his wife Madeline Phelps Anderson Sewell whom he married June 10, 1929. They were the parents of ten children, Richard (Jewell) Sewell, Louise Anderson Gilliland, Phyllis Sewell Whitis, Betty Sewell (Dave) Bingham, Gerald (Barbara) Sewell, Donald (Judy) Sewell, James (Joyce) Sewell, Wanda Sewell (Jack) Meece, Merrlyn Sewell (Bobby) Crow, and Doris Sewell (Bill) Hensley. He has 21 grandchildren which include Bettsy (Kent) Kalb of Flemingsburg and their children Logan and Evan, and Ben Hensley of Cincinnati, 36 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sons-in-law, l daughter-in-law, 1 granddaughter, 1 grandson-in-law, 2 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He made a profession of faith on October 6, 1941, was baptized and joined the Pine hill Baptist Church. In 1946 Rev. Sewell was ordained as a minister by Pine Hill Baptist Church. He pastored many churches during his ministry including Grave Hill, McKinney, Mt. Zion, Chimney Rock, White Lily, Whetstone, Dripping Springs, West Science Hill, Cedar Springs, Parnell & Pine Hill. Lloyd was a famer and an avid whittler and wood carver for many years. Visitation will be at Knox and Brothers Funeral Home, Friday from 4 until 6 p.m. Visitation will be at Somerset Undertaking Co. & Crematory on Sunday, May 26 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Funeral Service will be at 2 p.m. with burial in the Pine Hill Cemetery.
