Mason, MI
Wayne Albert Stanton, age 89, passed away October 8, 2011, at Lifehouse Assisted Living of Holt under the care of Hospice Advantage. He was born August 11, 1922, in Mesick, MI to Claude and Emma (Franks) Stanton. After graduation from Mesick High School, Wayne joined Ford Motor Company where he began learning the profession of die maker. His skilled trades training got interrupted when he was called to serve his country in WWII with the 6th Armored Infantry Regiment, First Armored Division. Wayne received a medical discharge in October of 1943 for wounds received in Libya, North Africa. After recovering from his injuries, Wayne completed his education receiving his die maker Journeyman’s card. He was hired by General Motors, Oldsmobile Division, where he worked until retiring in May of 1979. He was also a member of the Holt Lodge #572 F&AM.
He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and one sister.
65 years ago Wayne married Pauline Wolverton in Vantown, MI on November 30, 1946. She survives him along with their 3 children; daughters, Diane Crawford (Maurice) of Jackson, MI and Valerie Johansen (Donald) of Sevierville, TN; and son, Phillip (Jamie) of Negaunee, MI. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Stanton of Cadillac, MI; sister, Eileen Hicks of Vanderbilt, MI; and brother-in-law John Smith of Cadillac, MI.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 621 S. Jefferson, Mason, MI with the Rev. Dwayne Bagley officiating. Interment will be in Deepdale Memorial Gardens, Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5-8 PM.
