Steve was born Feb. 9, 1961, to Ellis and Barbara Mussell, Mt. Pleasant MI.
To say he was a man of many talents is an understatement. While he considered himself a “Jack of all trades; master of none,” there was scarcely a topic or task he couldn't tackle with natural aptitude and intellect. Steve was a pilot, builder, outdoorsman, family business-owner and coach; skilled butcher, crafter, farmer, mechanic, musician and a culinary force to be reckoned with. He was always “family handy-man”. Steve kept himself informed on many topics and all current events. Above all, Steve was a devoted husband and family man, happiest when surrounded by his wife and kids. He was endeared “Papa” to his grandchildren, always ready for one more tractor ride or video game, never without an offer of a sweet treat. Christmas was a favorite, as well as family vacations to Lake Leelanau and the Upper Peninsula. Despite prior knowledge of soccer, he read books and attended clinics to become his sons’ soccer coach, resulting in multiple undefeated seasons and positive impact on the young men he mentored. His legacy of love, caring and helping those in need lives on in those he leaves behind.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Mussell; step-mother, Theresa Mussell; and parents-in-law, Joyce and Leroy Saelens.
Steve is survived by his father, Ellis; siblings, Rick and Sherrie Mussell, Tina (Kevin) Brown; loving wife, Jacquelyn; sons Patrick (Jessica) and Logan (Sydney) Mussell; two grandchildren, Ian and Zoe Mussell; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. In honor of Steve’s wishes, no public service is planned at this time.
