Scott was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on December 29, 1970, to Gunner and Jean Schulz. He was the youngest of four children and was preceded in death by his father, his good friend Pam, and his faithful companions Turner, Banjo and Piper. Scott spent his formative years in Kalkaska, Michigan and met his brother from another mother, Scott (Lisa) Parker, graduating in 1989. He later attended Grand Rapids Community College where he graduated from the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education. Scott held various positions as a sous chef before opening his own restaurants, a series of award-winning delis with the most well-known being Two Beards Deli and Cherry Deli in Grand Rapids. Those who either worked at or frequented his delis, knew that Scott’s love language was through his food and his ability to care for and support others. Scott could often be found (if he wasn’t in the kitchen), working on projects in his shop with his youngest, watching and quoting movies, or spending time with those he loved. Scott was the epitome of a self-made man who was able to find peace in the small things such as spending time outdoors. He will be greatly missed by the movie theater and the popcorn industries. Scott was one in a million. He spread laughter no matter where he went and had a personality that was larger than life. Even after his accident, he maintained a positive attitude and worked hard on his recovery, often telling everyone he would be walking by next week.
Scott is survived by his wife, Kirsten, and five children Jacob, Madeline, and Chloe Schulz and Emilee and Ian Pennington. He is also survived by his sister Lori (Rich) Floyd and their children Alexis (Mitchell) McEachern and Zac (Hope) Floyd. His loyal dogs Kota and Ellie. His mother Jean, brother Doug, sister Tammy and her children.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations for a scholarship they are establishing for future culinary students. The family would like to thank everyone who was a part of his care over the past four years and for your love and support during this difficult time.
A visitation for Scott will be held Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 621 South Jefferson, Mason, MI 48854.
