Martin is survived by his high school sweetheart of 66 years, Bonnie Smiley; two children, Kellie Smiley and Martin (Leila) Smiley II; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Kirk Herald) Smiley, Michael (Jodi) Smiley II, Andrea (Rob) Blatchford, Marty (Aubrey) Smiley III, Matthew (Michelle) Smiley, and Briana Smiley; and many great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Fran and Robert Patterson; his son, Michael Smiley Sr.; and his twin brother, Frank Smiley.
Martin worked for Ralston Purina for 30 years, and was even promoted to regional sales manager.
As the patriarch of the Smiley’s, his family meant everything to him. Nothing made him happier than being surrounded by the ones he loved, especially his wife. When he wasn’t with his family, he could be found outside mowing the lawn or playing golf with his buddies. He was a godly man with the sweetest soul and will be missed dearly by so many.
A memorial service for Martin will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM, with a one-hour prior visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 621 South Jefferson St., Mason, MI 48854.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Martin's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
