Mason, MI
Passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28th, in Mason, Michigan. He had just celebrated his 90th birthday on July 21st. We are confident that he and his beloved Elaine are dancing for their Lord in thanksgiving for being reunited and their long life together. He was a 1939 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School. He proudly served in the United States Army and during World War II his training as a cryptographer technician was used by the US Navy. His service aboard the USS Fremont in the South Pacific Theater resulted in many military service awards before his honorable discharge in 1946 as Sergeant 1st Class. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Banking and a graduate of Central States Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. He was proudly employed at Dart National Bank of Mason for 22 years and retired as Vice-President and Cashier in 1974. Lennie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mason for 60 years, serving as elder and treasurer. He was a life member of the Mason Masonic Lodge #701 F & AM. A member of the Scottish Rite of Grand Rapids, ELF Khurafem Shrine Temple of Saginaw, Capital Caravan Club of Lansing, past president of the Ingham County Bankers Association and member of the Mason Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Elaine; his sister, Roberta; sons-in-law, Dennis Burgess and Donald Wright. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey (Sandi) Carter; daughters, Charlene Burgess and Sheren Wright; grandchildren, Christopher (Sarah) Wright, Matthew Wright, Melissa (Jason) Kean, Joshua Wright, Grant (Lisa) Burgess, Denise (Bill) McCullen and Shawn (Justin) Robinson; great grandchildren, Jennifer, Lucas, Nicklas and Sophia Wright, Ford and Oscar Burgess, Carter and Jerod McCullen. We are grateful beyond words for the loving care and kindness shown to our parents in the last two years by the staff at Green Acres Assisted Living in Mason. And we appreciate the care and concern by Heartland Hospice during his last days. A celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, September 1, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church of Mason, 131 E. Maple St., Mason, MI with Rev. Bill Pinches and Rev. Fred Graham officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service. For those desiring, memorial gifts may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Mason in memory of Lennie.
