He is survived by his children, Larry, William, Cathy and Betty Carr; sons-in-law, Ralph Cornell, Don Stewart; daughters-in-law, Julie Carr and Linda Carr-Lovett. He leaves 4 grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Saksewski, Laura Carr, Christina Hans and Joshua (Krista) Hans; 2 great-grandchildren, Emily Saksewski and MacKenna Hans; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his wife, Addie Janet (Kirby) Carr in 2002. John was the son of William T. and Harriet L. (Rehn) Carr. He was the last of 5 brothers, Truman, Delmer, Earl, Stanley; and 2 sisters, Laurine and Maurine Carr.
John joined the Navy after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. John served in the South Pacific as a Petty Officer and Storekeeper. He was a member of the Lansing VFW Hall 701. After returning from the Pacific, he married Janet in 1947. He retired from General Motors (Lansing Plant 3). John will be missed by his family and never forgotten. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. John put other’s needs above his own, generous to a fault, welcomed sons and daughters in-laws as his own.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, Ball Dunn Chapel, 621 S. Jefferson St., Mason, MI. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Later, he will be interned beside his wife at Fairview Cemetery, Dansville.
