Anita Jean, “Jeanie” Weber was born on December 30, 1956 in Corsicana, Texas. She was the fifth child born to Bernard and Betsy Weber, but she was the first to be born in Texas (as she liked to remind her siblings and children). Though she moved with her family to Mason, Michigan when she was 13, she remained a Texan at heart, teaching her children all about the Lone Star State, hanging pictures of bluebonnets on the walls of her home, and often singing “The Yellow Rose of Texas”.
Jeanie graduated from Mason High School in Mason, Michigan in 1975. MHS is also where Jeanie met the love of her life, Christopher J. Droscha. Mesmerized by her beautiful blue eyes and spunky personality, Chris quickly proposed after Jeanie’s high school graduation. They were married on September 11th, 1976 at St. James Catholic Church in Mason, Michigan. After traveling the country while Chris served in the Marine Corps, they settled down and made their home on Ives Road in Mason.
Jeanie was committed to serving her community, which she did in working as secretary at both the Vevay and Aurelius Township Halls. When her children were little, Jeanie also enjoyed working part-time at the Aurelius and Holt/Delhi libraries. In each place she worked, her attention to detail and perfect handwriting were noticed and appreciated.
In her free time, Jeanie filled her life with all of the things and people she loved: her family, quilting, gardening, and MSU sports (go green, go white)! When her children were young, she always looked forward to summers in Charlevoix with her sister, Betty, brother in-law, Mike and their three children. Jeanie loved being on the lake and was always up for a road trip to Holland for a day in the sand and sun.
An active and involved grandma (Nana) to Liam and Evelyn (who in turn believed that she could do no wrong), she was the ultimate cheerleader at Liam’s soccer and basketball games. She also enjoyed encouraging Evelyn’s artistic side. Jeanie was an artist herself, with quilting acting as her primary medium. She had an amazing eye for patterns and colors and she took great joy in quilting gifts for loved ones. Jeanie’s artistic talents also came out in growing flowers, which she would then make into beautiful bouquets for anyone who she thought might need a bright spot in their day. Jeanie was the ultimate caretaker, always putting her family before herself and knowing just what to do if a loved one was under the weather.
A dedicated Christian, Jeanie was raised Catholic but also came around to appreciate Protestant views on religion through her husband’s family church, Aurelius Baptist. She was an active member at St. James Parish in Mason. She tried to put God first in all that she did and supported her children’s world travels by texting the phrase “angels on your wings” whenever their plane was ready to take off. She was a loving, caring, sometimes silly but always fiercely loyal wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Jeanie is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard Patrick and Elizabeth Rose “Betsy” Weber, along with her brother, Benjamin Anthony Weber and her brother-in-law, Russell Painton. She is survived by so many: her husband, Chris Droscha, her children Kimberly (Andy) Floyd, Leigh Anne Droscha and Caiden Droscha, as well as her grandchildren, Liam and Evelyn Floyd, and her granddog, Maple Bean. She is also survived by her siblings: Mary Lynn Painton, Nancy (Tim) Sinnott, Betty (Mike) Redline, Pat (Marti Muzzy) Weber, Barb Smith, Sue Clark, JoAnne (Bill) Kean and Mike (Kari) Weber. Please keep her loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as they find both space to grieve and room to keep a piece of Jeanie in their hearts.
