Harley graduated from the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint, where he was actively involved in many sports. Following his passion for hard work and craftsmanship, Harley spent many years at Oldsmobile, retiring in January 1990 after decades of loyal service.
He married Joyce Arnold on October 27, 1956, in Dansville, Michigan, and together they built a life filled with love. Their bond was a testament to their commitment to each other and their family.
In retirement, Harley found joy in his many hobbies. He had a remarkable talent for fixing things and spent countless hours remodeling his home and crafting beautiful woodworking pieces. An avid car enthusiast, he enjoyed working on cars, and his meticulous attention to detail extended to his love for fishing and yard work. Harley was particularly proud of his well-maintained lawn, always ensuring it was a picture of perfection.
A faithful man, Harley was a long-time member of Capitol City Baptist Church, where he dedicated his time and energy as a Sunday school teacher. He took great joy in guiding others and sharing his faith with the community he loved.
Above all, Harley cherished spending time with his family. He was a proud supporter of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their sports events and encouraging them in every endeavor. His presence at these games, along with his constant love and support, will be remembered by all who knew him.
Harley is survived by his daughters: Wendy (David) Lilly and Michelle (Paul) Strom; grandchildren: Steven (Katherine) Lilly, Michael (Diana) Lilly, Nathan (Kristin) Lilly, Aaron (Kaitlyn) Lilly, Kendra (Nathan) Schick, Rachel Lilly, Kristin (Joshua) Brandt and Lindsey Strom; great grandchildren: Isaac, Brianna, Gabriella, Presley, Oaklynn, Andrew, Roczen, Scarlett, Allison, Gentry, Ila and Sage; sisters: Linda (Robert) Whitworth and Connie Hess; sisters-in-law: Julaine Allen, Kay Allen, Wanda Allen and Janet Thompson; brother-in-law Philip (Beverly) Arnold; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Joyce Allen; parents; and siblings: Lester, Richard, James, Ila and Rosemary.
A visitation for Harley will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 621 South Jefferson, Mason, MI 48854. A private interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery.
