Dorothy Georgia "Dot" Spink was born April 9, 1928, the daughter of George and Mary Wright. Dot was a 1946 graduate of Clawson High School and worked at Bell Telephone until she was married. Following her marriage to Jerry Spink she stayed home, raising their three children. She was a member of Mason First United Methodist Church, participating in many of their activities.
Surviving are her children, Marilynn Smith and Jayne (Lindsey) Hoxie; grandchildren, Kevin Smith, Kristy Peyvandi, Kerry Smith, April Myers, Andrew Hoxie, and Arden Hoxie; many great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Spink; son, Gary (Diane) Spink; siblings, June Ely and Jerry Wright.
Dorothy was the last of a generation of family and friends to leave this earth. They have left those of us in the next generation with wonderful memories of who they were and the times they shared. Dorothy had groups of friends for cards and golf. She loved gardening, skiing downhill and cross-country, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and music. She walked many 5Ks with her family and they shared a tradition for years of traveling to Mackinac Island for the 8K run/walk around the island. Dorothy loved to travel and has been all over the United States and overseas. She played clarinet and her husband played trombone. Together they played in the MSU Alumni Band in which they traveled overseas to perform.
According to Dorothy's wishes cremation has taken place. Her ashes, along with her husband's and son's will be interred this summer next to Jerry's parents at the Sherman-Mesick Memorial Cemetery. There will be a family graveside service.
