She was born to and survived by Thomas and Sharon Rosebury on July 21, 1971 in Lansing, Michigan and will always remain their precious child. Dawn is also survived and truly loved by siblings Wendy Rosebury (Kevin) Smith and Ricky Rosebury; aunts and uncles Lynette (Mike) Schultz, Debra (Bill) Barrett, Janet (Bill) Rich, Beverly (Harold) Hemingway; her boyfriend John Smith and numerous cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by David Rosebury (brother), Donald and Mildred Hoover (maternal grandparents), Cecil and Helen Rosebury (paternal grandparents) and Brian Brown. She is also reunited with several beloved pets, including her “Baby Girl” Miss Fajita Marie.
Dawn graduated from Mason Senior High School in 1989 where she was very active in sports including cheerleading and softball. She also participated in many 4-H projects including rabbits, chickens, woodworking, glass staining, and tube painting and was a national champion on the Royales Pom Pom team. Following graduation, she attended Lansing Community College majoring in criminal justice, but she found the passion of expressing herself through the honors level class of Creative Writing.
Throughout Dawn’s life, the jobs and volunteer causes she would chose to support reflected her personality and passions such as ensuring the security of others and her love of animals and people. While in high school, Dawn’s first job was at the Trapshoot in Mason, then Paradise Tanning as a receptionist after she graduated. She was a people person and loved being the first person someone would see or greet on the phone. She also prided herself on making others feel safe and worked several security positions. At Jackson National Life Insurance, she started out as security, then head receptionist, her beautiful face was the first you would see when you walked in the door. She was promoted to a purchasing position that she really loved. Working at the Ingham County Animal Control in Mason is where she shined. Her love of animals and ensuring they found a perfect home gave her the ultimate satisfaction.
Volunteerism was also a high priority to Dawn. For many years, she volunteered for Ele’s Race, Alzheimer’s Walk, pet adoptions, and was a Victim’s Advocate for Ingham County Sheriff Department. In addition to Animal Control, Dawn personally rehomed over 100 animals, many in her own home. While volunteering at one pet adoption event, a recently orphaned baby goose, Caruso, was given to Dawn and she raised this gosling inside her own home for a year.
Throughout her life, Dawn enjoyed the outdoors, canoeing, camping, bonfires, biking, and trail running. She was full of life and loved thrill-seeking experiences such as, sky-diving, hang-gliding, white water rafting, and bungee jumping. Dawn was very creative in every aspect of her life. She created award winning scrapbooks, drew amazing caricature drawings, captured special moments in photography, and was a very creative cook. Her specialty was making spicy hot dishes that matched her spicy personality. Dawn was avid MSU fan and loved music. When a song came on she liked, she was notorious for grabbing whatever substitute microphone she could fine, be it a ketchup bottle, spatula, or broom.
Dawn’s greatest gift was the love of her family and friends. She hated anyone hurt or feel left out and will always be remembered for her ability to lift spirits with her quick witted, quirky sense of humor and infectious laugh. Dawn believed in the Lord, Jesus Christ and was beginning to learn more about Him. She will be continuing her education in Heaven with the Ultimate Teacher.
“How lucky we are to have someone that makes saying goodbye so hard”---Winnie-the-pooh, one of Dawn’s favorite characters.
