David was born in Galesburg, Illinois to Louisa Helen Buxton (Johnson) and Cleo Walter Buxton on May 17, 1951. He was the oldest of four children, Kathy, Betsy Whitney (Buxton) and Tom Buxton.
Growing up, David enjoyed playing basketball and listening to a wide variety of music. He spent many summers building cabins for his family’s ministry in Spring Canyon, Colorado.
After graduating from Lansing Christian High School, David attended Michigan State University to study economics. An avid Spartan fan, he could often be found cheering on the MSU football or basketball teams and loved to talk about sports.
Shortly after leaving MSU, David decided to start his own company, Spartan Paper Co, an office supply company well known in the Lansing area.
David had two daughters through marriage, Melissa Dawn French (Buxton) and Jennifer Lynn Buxton Gruel. His daughters will remember him as an eternal optimist, encouraging them to try new things even when they are difficult. Music was an important piece of Dave’s life, and the love of Motown music has been imprinted on both daughters. David also instilled the importance of having an informed opinion on topics that are personally important, and the desire to make changes.
David was always an animal-lover and has had many animals throughout his life. Most recently, David adopted a foster dog, Tessa, who became his gentle companion through the end.
David is survived by his three siblings, his two daughters, three grandchildren, and Tessa.
