Barbara (Bobbie) Lois Cone (nee Blunk), age 89, of Mason, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017. Bobbie was the oldest child of Nelle and Adolf Blunk. She was proceeded in death by her parents and brother Ted (Mary Ann) Blunk. Bobbie is survived by her husband of 68 years Robert (Bob) Cone; her children Holly (Paul) Nieusma, Brett (Lynn) Cone, and Brooks (Kathy) Cone; her brother John (Sue) Blunk; and her eight grandchildren.
Bobbie was born in Cleveland, OH, raised in Cumberland, Maryland, and graduated from Denison University (Grandville, OH) in 1950, where she studied French. While there she met Bob and they were married in 1949. The couple moved to Mason in 1955 where they raised their family and both spent time as educators for the Mason Public Schools. Bobbie’s passion was antiques. She opened an antique shop in Mason which she operated for over 30 years.
She enjoyed traveling the US and Canada, taking annual family camping trips to see the national parks when their children were young. In later years, she and Bob enjoyed traveling the east coast and attended the antiques summit in Williamsburg, VA each year, stopping at interesting shops along the way. Bobbie was a very active member of the Presbyterian Church of Okemos for 45 years and started a local bible study group with friends which met regularly for decades. She and Bob were involved members of the community holding season tickets to the Wharton Center and volunteering for WKAR.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Okemos with the Rev. Rob Carlson officiating. The family will greet friends at the church the hour prior to the service; a light lunch will be served after. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Deacons Fund at the Presbyterian Church of Okemos.
