Richard Duane Toop

Dick was born on September 8, 1941, to Ferdinand and Marion Toop in Yakima, WA. He graduated from West Valley High School in 1960 and married his childhood love, Lillian Woodin, in 1964. Together, they raised three sons, David, Greg, and Jeff, and were so proud of the men they grew to be.

Richard was a successful businessman who owned three NAPA auto parts stores in Marysville, Smokey Point, and Granite Falls, before selling them in 1988 to pursue a career as an automotive teacher at Sno Isle Tech. He was passionate about education and developed a curriculum and a classroom store that enabled students to learn the skills necessary to work in a professional parts store. Richard retired from teaching in 2007.

Throughout his life, Richard was an active member of his community. He co-chaired the Marysville School District levy committee and was also very involved in the development of Marysville soccer fields, playing over 10 years in the over 40 men's soccer league and coaching his three son’s youth teams.

Richard's infectious smile and kind manner filled any room he was in. He earned the respect of his peers and made lifelong friends wherever he worked. He loved his family deeply, and being a grandfather, father, and uncle filled his life with joy.

Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lillian, his sons David (Becki), Greg, and Jeff, his granddaughters Demri (Gareth) Toop Henderson and Danika Toop, and his brother Charles, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Jack Toop, Jerry Toop, Eugene Toop, and Donna Toop Brown Taylor.

Richard will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His steady character and generous nature will be remembered as his lasting legacy.
