Kaye Sauter passed away December 20, 2022. She was born on September 10, 1926 in the Shansi Province of China to her missionary parents, Erwin and Katherine Hertz. When the Hertz family returned from China, they lived in St. Cloud Minnesota, where Kaye graduated from high school in 1944.
After high school, Kaye married Joseph Shields, who passed away in 1949. She later finished nurse’s training and in 1950, she married Clarence Sauter, from Fairmount North Dakota. They made their first home in Aberdeen, North Dakota. In 1957, Clarence and Kaye moved to Washington State and eventually settled in Marysville. Kaye worked for Providence Hospital as a delivery room nurse for 15 years and then worked as the office nurse for Doctor Glein in Marysville until she retired.
In retirement, Kaye became an avid volunteer for the Marysville Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul of Marysville, the American Cancer Society, and the Red Cross. She enjoyed singing with the Stilly Singers until the pandemic made that impossible.
Kaye is survived by her children, David and wife Amy, Edward and wife Betsy, Thomas and wife Avriel, Mark and wife Joan, Marie and husband Rick, Teresa and husband Marek and Steve and wife Tami, brother-in-law John Lindquist, along with 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Joseph Shields, her husband Clarence Sauter, her parents and her sister Betty Lindquist, her daughter Teresa Marie and her sons, Jim and Chris.
Services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 4200 88th St NE in Marysville on January 11, 2023. Rosary will start at 9:45 a.m. followed by a memorial mass at 10:30. A luncheon will be held after the service in the parish hall. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to the Marysville Food Bank or St. Vincent de Paul of Marysville.
