Helen (Brown) Thornton went to her Lord and Savior on February 26, 2012. She was 92 years of age. Helen was born to Dora Lee and Att Brown in Truman, AR. She was raised by her grandparents, George and Famey Hatfield and when Helen was just six months old, the family moved to Blair, NE where she attended elementary and high school.
In 1937 she married Horace (Bud) Carmichael. Together they had seven children. Over the next several years the family moved many times finally settling in Omaha, NE.
Helen and Bud divorced in Omaha. After a few years of struggling as a single mom with six children, Helen met and married the man who would change her life, Leo Thornton. Leo brought stability, joy and happiness into Helen's life. Together they had three children. Helen and Leo's home would always be open for a child or a grandchild in need. We will all miss you Mom.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leo; sons, Robert and Steven; and son-in-law, Gene Brookover (Kathy).
Helen is survived by her sons, Richard (Alice) of Poulsbo, WA, Andy (Diana) of Kingman, KS and Alan of Everett, WA; daughters, Marilyn of Bothell, WA, Helen "Gheri" (Wayne) of Leesburg, FL, Kathy of Everett, WA, Pamela (Dale) of Grand Island, NE and Shirley of Everett, WA; and 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the Schaefer Shipman Funeral Home of Marysville on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 12:00 Noon with interment to follow at the Marysville Cemetery.
