Elton was raised on a dairy farm in Cameron, WI with his two sisters and three brothers, he being the oldest. His father fell ill and he had the responsibility of doing the farm work at a young age. Later he worked for Standard Oil. After getting married in 1947 to Florence, they traveled to Oregon. In Wisconsin, David was born in 1949. In 1950 he took over a Standard Oil bulk plant. Debbie was born in 1953 there. In 1954, because of the tragic death of two of his younger brothers and a sister in law, they left WI for a job offer in Montana, where he fell in love with wheat farming north of Great Falls. Then it was off to Everett, WA, where Daniel was born in 1959. He worked in sales for quite some time, and he was a good salesman. An opportunity arose to be his own boss again and led to the purchase of a janitorial service, which was a family adventure for several years. The seventies were the best years of his life he said as they got an opportunity to lease over five thousand acres in Wilsall and Ringling, MT, north of Livingston, to return to wheat farming. The mid-eighties brought Florence and Elton back to their home in Everett. Not one to sit around, he worked selling RV's and got the RV bug. Lastly, he worked at Warm Beach Care Facility in Stanwood doing maintenance and helping the residents there. Some of the later years were spent traveling in the RV around the country sightseeing and visiting old friends and relatives as well as being snowbirds in the winter to CA and AZ. A trip to visit Dan in Australia was a highlight and a trip to remember. Elton saw strangers as an opportunity to be friendly and to talk just about anything. He remembered everybody and wasn't intimidated by wealth or social standing. He was a great mechanic and maintained his farm equipment, cars, and was there to fix friends' cars. He changed his own car oil until he was over 90.
The last few years limited his activities because of vision and hearing loss. He stayed faithful to Florence for two days less than seventy-four years and to Jesus Christ, whom he is now with at peace forever more.
The family, because of covid concerns, has not made plans for a memorial at this time. A later date may be arranged.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Elton's name to The Salvation Army Northwest Division, 1108 State Street, Marysville, WA 98270 or Warm Beach Health Care, 20420 Marine Dr, Stanwood, WA 98292
