Betty Jean Matthies

She was born Sept. 16, 1937 in Aitkin, Minnesota to Edward and Lydia Collins.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, all nine of her siblings and two grandsons.

She leaves behind her four children, Debbie (Rex) Lamm, James Meline, Judi (Keith) Gepner and Dale Matthies; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Betty’s children were her world. She was a stay at home mother when her children were younger. She enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing and crafts. She went on to be a private caregiver for the elderly until she retired. In retirement she continued her devotion to her adult children, sharing many laughs and making memories.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home with a gathering to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
