Art served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the Guadalcanal, seeking and destroying German U-boats. The ship’s crew also captured a U505 submarine and took possession of its enigma code machine and code books.
After the service he graduated from the Palmer School of Chiropractic and opened an office in Everett with his father-in-law. Haynes-Thompson served patients for forty-five years. Art was among those instrumental in obtaining the first chiropractic licensing in four western states, including Washington, and setting professional standards. He was past president of the Washington Chiropractic Association and served on national committees. He was also president of CBS, an insurance company founded by him, and long-time friend Dr. Harold Hughes.
Art attended Berean Baptist Church. He was an avid reader, a history buff, an accomplished wood-worker, and a Scout Master. He also enjoyed traveling to different parts of the United States. He loved telling a good joke and he loved people.
He leaves his beloved wife, Dorothy of 25 years; children, Jerry (Judy) Thompson, Craig (Suzan) Thompson, Becky (Jeff) Stewart and extended family Katherine (Jim) Alderman and Steve (Sheryl) Smith; his sister Kathryn Sharpe; eight grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Art was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Edith; and his brothers Billy and Ralph.
He will be missed but remembered with fond memories.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 12:30 PM at the Berean BaptistChurch, 601 Delta Ave., Marysville, WA. Burial will be at the Marysville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palmer or Sherman College of Chiropractic, the Berean Baptist Church, the Salvation Army or charity of choice.
