Agnes Magna Sarsten, 96, passed away March 6, 2013 to meet her Saviour and be reunited with her beloved husband, Russell Sarsten; her daughter, Donna; and many loved ones. She was born on July 11, 1916 to Sivert and Martha Gostol in Litchville, North Dakota.
She lived in North Dakota until 1927 when the family decided to move out to Washington during the depression. Her parents packed all their earthly belongings along with their five children and four adults into a 1925 Hupmobile and headed west. They settled in Granite Falls and after mom finished high school, she worked in Everett and helped support the family.
She married Russell Sarsten May 13, 1939 and they had four children, Robert (Kay) Sarsten, Beverly (Dennis) Hoidal, Patricia (Keith) Swanson, and Donna Sarsten Jensen. She leaves Bob, Bev and Pat; along with 10 grandchildren, (Robb Sarsten, Julie (Chuck) Priest, Heidi Pellegrine, Kevin (Kristin) Hoidal, Jeff (Stephanie) Hoidal, Erik Swanson, Tait (Natalie) Swanson, Jason (Manuela) Swanson, Karl (Cynthia) Jensen, Kent (Kari) Jensen; step-grand-children, Michelle, Eric and Chris Black, and Rob, Randy, Ryan Miller and Ralina Galliway; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She and dad were members of Lakewood Lutheran Church while we were younger and then joined the First Baptist church in Marysville in our teen years. Mom was always busy quietly helping and serving others. She always thought of everyone but herself and was a kind and giving person. She loved her home and raising us on the farm they bought in 1939 on McRae Rd. She always had a big garden, and helped dad with the chicken farm when we were kids. She always welcomed anyone to stay (when dad invited them over without telling her) and was a gracious hostess. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and having big family reunions. In later years she and dad enjoyed many trips.
Mom (Grandma) will be missed every day by all her family and those who knew her.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. at Marysville Cemetery followed by a memorial service at Maryville First Baptist Church at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013. Celebration of her life following service.
