Margaret Wayland Clanton

Margaret Wayland Clanton, 93, formerly of Martinsville, died Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Landmark Center in Stuart where she was a resident. She was born in Middlebrook, Virginia, November 27, 1918 to William Justin and Margaret Dunlap Wayland. She retired from the Henry County School System and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John William Clanton, a son, John William Clanton, Jr. a sister, Justine Wayland Thompson and a brother, William Justin Wayland, Jr.

Mrs. Clanton is survived by a daughter, Margaret “Bennie” Clanton Breece of Winston-Salem, NC; a son, George Wayland Clanton and wife, Sharon of Ridgeway; two grandsons, John William Clanton, II of Manassas and George Wayland Clanton, Jr. of Harrisonburg; a sister, Shirley Wayland Stanley of Richmond.

A graveside service will be held Monday, July 2, 2012 at 11:00 am at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Mateer and the Rev. Jenny Spivey officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville. (In the event of continued power outage in Martinsville, the family will receive friends at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett.)

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church, 1901 Patrick Henry Ave., Martinsville, VA 24112.
