James Carlton Rigney, 91, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville. He was born on June 9, 1924 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to the late William Lesley Rigney and Mattie Jefferson Rigney.
Mr. Rigney had served in the U.S. Army with Medical Battalion 135th infantry Regiment during World War II. He was retired from Roy Stone Transfer Company as a Truck Driver and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Grimes Rigney.
He is survived by his daughters, Sherry Rigney Trull and husband, J. W.,
Carolyn Rigney Hodnett and husband, Gerald and Susan Rigney Gauldin and husband, Ray; his sisters, Florence Amos and Louise Dodson; his brothers, Billy Rigney and Bobby Rigney; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 2:00 PM at McKee-Stone Funeral Home with Rev. Daryl Joyce officating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park in Danville and the family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service and at other times at the home of Carolyn Hodnett.
