Born January 8, 1922, in State College, PA, he was the son of the late J. Stanley and Elsie Johnson Cobb. Also preceding him in death was his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth DeMerritt Cobb.
Stan is survived by his daughters Sarah Bulmer and her husband Bruce, of Fincastle, VA, and Lisa Curlee and her husband Parker, of Richmond, VA; his grandson Lee Enoch, his granddaughter Sarah Curlee, and his sister Priscilla Winship of Amherst, MA.
Stan graduated from Penn State University and after serving in the Navy in World War II, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1947 he joined DuPont in Martinsville as a research engineer. He retired in 1987 after a long and illustrious career with numerous patents to his credit. Stan was generous in giving his time and attention to several organizations including the Boy Scouts of America, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Service Corps of Retired Executives, and the Henry County Chamber of Commerce. He was an Elder and choir member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville for many years. During his later years he enjoyed traveling, gardening and golfing. Stan was a gentle and giving man who will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Kings Grant at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville, 1901 Patrick Henry Ave., Martinsville, VA, 24112.
