Hazel Williams Hughes of Martinsville, Virginia, age 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, her husband (Herbert), parents, one brother (Thomas) and many friends in Heaven after a brief illness on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Hazel was born on September 6, 1934 in North Carolina.
Hazel is survived by a son Marc Hughes, and a daughter Mary Beth Roach (Mark) and four grandchildren Brandon Roach (Libba), Casey Roach, Ashlyn Hughes and Tyler Hughes. Hazel is also survived by a beloved brother Wayne Williams (Doris) and one niece (Heather) and many friends.
Hazel was predeceased by her “soul mate”, Herbert Hughes. Herbert and Hazel celebrated sixty-two amazing years of marriage in which they taught and modeled to their family the meaning of faith, family, friends and love. Hazel’s happiest moments were the times she was surrounded by her family, especially during the Christmas season and times with her beloved grandchildren.
Hazel retired from teaching with the City of Martinsville in 1996. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church serving in various positions for many years.
All services will be private and will be officiated by Pastor Chris Bennett.
