Emma Sue Hensley Minter, 95, of Ridgeway (Horsepasture Community) died Monday, February 13, 2012 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. She was born in Henry County, November 2, 1916 to Peter Dillard Hensley and Laurie Martin Hensley. She was a long-time member of Horsepasture Christian Church (approximately 85 years) where she had also taught Sunday School. She was also a former member of the Horsepasture Extension Homemaker’s Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Otis Minter, Sr.; one sister, Lucille Hensley Merriman; three brothers, Clyde Dillard Hensley, James Bryant Hensley and Ronnie Ray “Pete” Hensley.
She is survived by one daughter, Sylvia Minter Haynes and husband, George Booker Haynes of the Horsepasture Community; four sons, James O. “Jimmy” Minter, Jr. and wife Pauline M. Minter, William Edward “Eddie” Minter, Sr. and wife Cynthia J. Minter, all of the Horsepasture Community, Roger Dale Minter of Martinsville, Maxie Leon Minter and wife Doris C. Minter of Stoneville, NC; nine grandchildren, Brenda Dawn Iles, Carol Minter Alley, Michelle Haynes Moore, Darcey Minter Jewell, Rebecca Minter Oliver, Tina Minter Garcia, William Edward “Bill” Minter, Jr., Amy Sue Haynes and Amanda Minter Shields; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Horsepasture Christian Church with Minister Dave Cuthbertson and Minister Robert Ashby officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Horsepasture Christian Church and other times at the home.
