Dorothy Elizabeth Schoel Cox, 86, of Ridgeway, Virginia, went to be home with her Savior on August 16, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rebecca and Arnold Schoel of Livingston, Alabama and by her husband Joseph Powhatan Cox of Ridgeway.
She is survived by her children; Elizabeth Lyon Cox Moyer (Mark) of Elverson, Pennsylvania, Nancy Eggleston Cox of Martinsville, Virginia, grandchildren; Erin Elizabeth Moyer and Kirsten Rebecca Moyer, and her brother; William A. Schoel, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama.
Dot was born on April 13, 1930 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. As a youth, she lived in Livingston, Alabama, an honor student and active in her church. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a BS degree in Mathematics and a MA degree in Education. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. For a number of years she taught math at the secondary and post-secondary levels in both Alabama and Virginia.
In 1955, Dot married Powhatan Cox, a Southern Baptist minister, and began life as a minister’s wife and church leader. They served together in churches in Norfolk, Pulaski, and Gladys, Virginia and in Commerce and Forsyth, Georgia.
Dot will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, a loving content and wise woman, above all as a servant of her Lord as she cared for family, friends, and church members.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at The First Baptist Church of Ridgeway with the Reverend Wayne Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
