Our loving mother, Burdie Wagner Spencer, age 95, departed from us peacefully at the Blue Ridge Therapy Connection, in Stuart, and went home to be with her Saviour and Lord on Tuesday, January 13, 2015.
She was born in Lawton, WV on May 28, 1919. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Emma Mize Wagner, her husband, Jefferson G. Spencer; an infant son, Fred Allen Spencer, her brothers, Raymond, Willie, Tommy and Veemon Wagner; her sisters, India Clark, Bibbie Hodges, Dellie Ramsey, and Dollie Norfleet, and a grand-daughter, Deborah P. Cox.
She is survived by and will be sadly missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and David Branch, Bonnie and George Clifton, her sons and daughter-in-law, Carl “Len” and Shirley Spencer, Curtis Larry Spencer and friend, Connie Manley, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a retired furniture factory and knitting mill worker. She was an avid quilter and loved to share her creations with family and friends. Her other favorite pastimes were sewing, working in her yard, and being with family. She also enjoyed attending church whenever she could and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for many years.
Services will be held at McKee-Stone Funeral Home on Broad Street in Martinsville at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, with Pastor Donald Reynolds officiating. Our family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and other times at our homes. Interment will be at Roselawn Burial Park.
