Annie Mae O'Dell Hankins

Annie Mae Hankins, 95, of Axton, passed away in Martinsville on June 18, 2014. She was in the company of many of her loved ones and was able to knowingly commune with each of them as they celebrated her life. Her passing was peaceful.

In November 1934 she married Roland Hankins; he passed away in April 1999. Annie was blessed with seven children: Joseph Conrad (deceased), Jean Constance, Jerry Colbert, Joy Carol, James Coy, Judy Cheryl, and Jethro Clayton. She was further blessed with seventy-five grandchildren spanning three generations (one grandchild and one great-grandchild deceased).

Mrs. Hankins is the daughter of Joseph O’Dell and Mary Patterson, both deceased. She was born in November 1918 in Rockingham County, NC, Annie has five brothers and five sisters, she is survived by one sister, Chattie Ann Gilley.

Funeral arrangements are with McKee-Stone Funeral Home. Viewing will be at the funeral home Friday, June 20th from noon until 2:00 p.m. A wake will be held, with viewing, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at her home at 2961 Lawrence Drive, Axton.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 21st, 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with services being officiated by the Reverend George T. Agnew. Annie is a Christian and loved the Lord Jesus. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
