It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Solomon Wako, age 79, a resident of Shenandoah Junction & Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He departed on January 21, 2024, at WVU Medical Center in West Virginia.
Dr. Solomon was born on January 27, 1944, in Wollega, Ethiopia, to Wako Bajena and Kitile Golja. On July 25, 1971, he entered into matrimony with Aster Waldyeuses in Norway.
His academic pursuits led him to acquire a Ph.D. in Sociology from Western Michigan University, along with master's degrees in Social Work and Divinity from Andrew University. Additionally, he earned a Bachelor's degree from Newbold College, England.
Professionally, Dr. Solomon retired as the Director of Development and Review at Adventist Development and Relief Agency, after capping off a successful academic career as a tenured professor at Walla Walla College in Walla Walla, Washington. Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Solomon commitment to God was visible in his daily worship, many lectures and visiting pastorships. He always remained committed to his Oromo Culture.
He will be remembered for his generosity, unwavering dedication, and his kind compassionate nature.
Dr. Solomon is survived by 6 children, as well as 11 grandchildren.
A formal memorial service is scheduled for Friday, January 26, 2024, at Charles Town Seventh Day Adventist Church, 7869 Summit Point Rd, Charles Town, WV, commencing at 12 pm, followed by a reception.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rosedale Funeral Home, 917 Cemetery Rd, Martinsburg, WV.
