Sarah Hux Townsend, wife of C Vincent Townsend, MD, died at her home (Huxley Hall, Old Mill Rd., Martinsburg, WV) on Saturday, November 4, 2023. She was the daughter of George A and Ethel Smith Hux of Halifax, NC and was of the Methodist Faith.
She is survived by C Vincent Townsend Jr. (son) and his wife Julie, Gary M Townsend MD, JD (son) and Robin W. Townsend DVM (son) and his wife Janet. She is also survived by her dear grandchildren C Vincent III, Carson Hunter, Sage Noel, Sarah Bucko, Austin Hux, Troy Kearney and Amber Dawn Townsend, and great granddaughters Lucy B and Zoe B Townsend.
Sarah graduated from Louisburg College, Louisburg NC where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She was also a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing, Richmond VA. She completed a BS degree at Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, WV and was named to the Board of Shepherd College Foundation in 2002.
After her presidency of the Eastern Panhandle Medical Society Alliance and Eastern Regional Director, she served as State President of the WV State Medical Assn. Alliance (1990-91), and was named State Alliance Member of the Year (1997).
She was an active member of Olde Berkeley Garden Club, having been President and also President of the Shenandoah – Potomac Council. She was a district Director and State President of WV Garden Club (1983-85), also serving as Chaplain of the South Atlantic Region and Chairman of various committees. She served on the Board of Directors of the National Garden Club, Inc., also serving as Corresponding Secretary, Chaplin and as permanent Home & Endowment Trustee for 6 years. She enjoyed her travels across the nation in these offices and the many friends she made in Garden Club activities.
She had been President of the Berkeley County Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, President of the Local Daughters of the American Colonies and the Sir George Calvert Chapter of the Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century.
She enjoyed the history of the area and of her native Halifax, NC, and took pleasure in collecting antiques for her cherished home, Huxley Hall, on Tuscarora Creek in Martinsburg.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who valued her wide community of friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 10am at Rosedale Funeral Home. Gathering of family and friends will begin at 9:30.
