It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ronnie Llewellyn, who left us on July 18th, 2023 at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV. He was a father, teacher, brother, and veteran, leaving behind a legacy of laughs and memories.
Born on September 7th, 1960, in Frostburg, Maryland, to Sandra Jean (Loar) and Ronald James “Jim” Llewellyn Sr., Ronnie was the oldest of eight kids. His selflessness was something to admire. Ronnie was always there to help those that needed it and would give up his jacket if it meant you could stay warm. As a father, he helped build a solid foundation of hard work, sacrifice, and humor for his children, “Little” Ron, Tara, and Zach. We value his lessons, both intended and through example.
Professionally, Ronnie came out of a successful career in the Air Force and worked for both McDonnell Douglas and Boeing. There he was a dedicated instructor, mentor, and writer, authoring multiple textbooks and technical manuals used to instruct pilots to this very day. He excelled in his field and earned the respect of colleagues and students alike. His passion for his work was evident, and he always went above and beyond to help those around him.
Outside of work, Ronnie had a passion for sports teams that had little to no success since the 80’s as he had no interest in being a fair-weather fan. He was handy around the house, worked on cars, and loved to grill. With a dark sense of self-deprecating humor, he was very disarming and helped provide levity to all manners of the human condition, even when often not appropriate. That was how he got through life’s challenges. He was a “glass half-empty” guy, but that didn’t mean all was doom and gloom, just that you needed to fill it back up.
Ronnie is survived by his children and their families, Ronald ‘Little Ron” James Llewellyn III of Arizona, Tara Diane Barnes of Idaho, and Zachary Boyd Mefford Llewellyn of South Carolina. He is also survived by his father, four brothers, three sisters, and their families, Rodney Llewellyn, Dan Llewellyn, Bill Llewellyn, Eric Llewellyn, Sindi Kerns, Bonnie Saylor-Cohen, and Wendy Wyckoff. A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Ronald James Llewellyn Jr. will be held at the following on Saturday, August 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Eckhart United Methodist Church, 17031 Porter Road, SW Frostburg, MD 21532
Friends and family are invited to attend and share their stories and memories so we can all appreciate the joy he brought to our lives.
Rest in peace, Dad. It’s good to know you are no longer in pain.
With Love,
Ronald James Llewellyn III and Family"
